Exhibition Dedicated to Baku World Judo Championships 2026 Opens at Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum
An exhibition titled “Woven into History”, dedicated to the Baku 2026 World Judo Championships, has opened at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.
The exhibition features eight stage costumes inspired by Azerbaijan’s carpet-weaving traditions, which were showcased during the opening ceremony of the World Championships, alongside the historic carpets that served as the inspiration for their designs.
Through the creative vision of designer Laman Suleymanova, the distinctive patterns and colours of Azerbaijani carpets have been reinterpreted in contemporary stage costumes. Displaying the historic carpets alongside the costumes inspired by them highlights the connection between Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage and contemporary performing arts.
One of the exhibition’s main objectives is to present Azerbaijani judo not only through its sporting achievements but also as an integral part of the country’s cultural life.
The stage costumes, specially created for the opening ceremony of the World Championships and reflecting Azerbaijan’s national and cultural heritage, have been donated to the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum by the Azerbaijan Judo Federation. This initiative aims to preserve part of the cultural heritage presented to an international audience during the Championships and pass it on to future generations.
The exhibition will be open to visitors at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum’s exhibition hall daily from 10:00 to 18:00 until 11 October.
