Babek Hajiyev and Movlud Miraliyev Crowned Veterans World Champions

Azerbaijan added two more gold medals at the Veterans World Judo Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Competing in the M5 age category, Babek Hajiyev (-60 kg) and Movlud Miraliyev (-100 kg) won all their contests to claim the world titles. Both Azerbaijani judoka became Veterans World Champions for the fourth time in their careers.

Earlier, Mammadali Mehdiyev (-100 kg) won gold, while Abulfat Ismayilov (-60 kg), Mahir Abbasov (-81 kg), Joshgun Abdullayev (-90 kg), Shikhrajab Shikhmuradov and Ahmad Mammadov (both -73 kg), and Anar Aghayev (-90 kg) claimed bronze medals.

Azerbaijan’s medal tally at the World Championships has therefore reached nine — three gold and six bronze. The team currently ranks sixth among 65 participating countries.
