The individual competitions at the World Judo Championships in Baku have concluded, with Azerbaijan securing a record seven medals.

On the seventh day of competition at the National Gymnastics Arena, the Azerbaijani national team added two more medals to its tally. In the men's +100 kg category, Ushangi Kokauri claimed silver, while Kenan Nasibov secured bronze.

Kokauri advanced to the final, where he faced Russia's Inal Tasoev in the contest for the world title. The final ended in victory for Tasoev, leaving Kokauri with the silver medal. This marked his second silver medal at the senior World Judo Championships, having previously finished as runner-up at the 2018 edition, also held in Baku.

Kenan Nasibov also delivered an impressive performance in the same weight category. In the bronze medal contest, he defeated his compatriot and teammate Jamal Gamzatkhanov to secure third place. Nasibov thus earned a medal in his very first appearance at the senior World Judo Championships.

Azerbaijan concluded the individual competitions with a record seven medals — one gold, two silver and four bronze. Ahmad Yusifov (-60 kg) claimed gold, Zelim Tckaev (-81 kg) and Ushangi Kokauri (+100 kg) secured silver, while Rashid Mammadaliyev (-73 kg), Omar Rajabli (-81 kg), Murad Fatiyev (-90 kg) and Kenan Nasibov (+100 kg) earned bronze medals.

This represents the highest number of medals Azerbaijan has ever won at a single edition of the senior World Judo Championships. The national team finished third in the individual medal standings among 93 participating countries.

The World Judo Championships will conclude on 11 October with the mixed team competition.
