Azerbaijan Opens Paris Grand Slam with Two Medals
The Judo Grand Slam in Paris, the capital of France, has begun. At this prestigious tournament, Azerbaijani judoka won 2 medals on the first day – 1 gold and 1 bronze.
In the -60 kg category, Balabay Agayev defeated Ukraine’s Dilshot Khalmatov in the final to claim the title at this tournament for the third time in his career.
In the -66 kg category, Ruslan Pashayev secured the bronze medal, overcoming Italian judoka Valerio Accolini with a yuko score in the closing seconds of the contest.
After the first day of competition, Azerbaijan ranks second in the men’s medal standings and third in the overall team standings among 78 countries.
