Islam Rahimov becomes U-23 European champion
The U23 European Judo Championships have kicked off in the Moldovan capital, Chișinău. On the opening day, our national team claimed its first gold medal.
Competing in the –66 kg category, Islam Rahimov captured the title with a hard-fought victory over the Netherlands’ Jochem van Harten in the final.
Starting from the round of 32, Rahimov eliminated Slovakia’s Roman Dekan and Croatia’s Dani Klačar in succession. He then defeated Armenia’s Jirayr Hambaryan and, on his way to the final, overcame Ukraine’s Nazar Viskov.
It is worth noting that four years ago Rahimov was the European champion at cadet level.
