“Judo in Schools” project has been launched
The “Judo in Schools” project has been launched through the joint initiative of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation (ACF) and the Agency for Preschool and General Education under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan (APGE).
The opening ceremony of the project was held at Secondary School No. 250 in Nizami district of Baku. The event was attended by ACF Executive Vice President Rashad Rasullu, honoured coach Terlan Hasanov, Vafa Huseynzada, leading advisor of the Child Development and Welfare Department of APGE, and Sevda Ramazanova, specialist of the Extracurricular Activities Sector of the Baku City Education Department. In their speeches, the speakers highlighted the objectives of the project, its implementation mechanism and the benefits it will bring to schoolchildren.
Within the framework of physical education classes, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students will learn the basics of judo. The lessons are conducted by experienced ACF coaches who hold international certificates.
During the sessions, schoolchildren will be introduced to the basic rules of judo, safe falling techniques (ukemi), fundamental movement skills and working with a partner. At the same time, age-appropriate exercises and games enriched with judo elements will be used to promote core judo values such as respect, discipline and responsibility.
At the end of the lessons, children and their parents will be informed about nearby judo clubs, offered the opportunity to take trial classes and provided with simple options for enrollment.
The aim of the project is to enhance safety in everyday life (reducing the risk of injuries caused by falls and slips), develop social skills, foster an interest in judo from an early age and increase the overall popularity and participation in judo.
