Strong Start for Team Azerbaijan at the Guadalajara Grand Prix
The national judo team of Azerbaijan made a magnificent start to the Grand Prix held in Guadalajara, Mexico. Of our four representatives who stepped onto the tatami, three managed to reach the podium.
Balabay Aghayev (-60 kg) and Ruslan Pashayev (-66 kg) won all their bouts and had our National Anthem played. In the finals, our judokas defeated Michel Augusto (Brazil) and Lukas Sahan (Finland), respectively, to claim gold medals.
In the -60 kg category, our other athlete, Ahmad Yusifov, overcame France’s Enzo Jean in the bronze-medal contest to secure third place.
After the first day of the Guadalajara Grand Prix, with 2 gold and 1 bronze medals, Azerbaijan sits atop the overall standings among 33 countries.
