On 8 March, the second leg of the U-17 “Talent Selection” judo tournament came to an end.

A total of 265 athletes (222 boys and 43 girls) from 64 clubs and sports societies took part in the event held at the Absheron Olympic Sports Complex.

On the final day of competition, 134 judoka stepped onto the tatami across 8 weight categories. Girls competed in the -44 kg, -52 kg, -63 kg and +70 kg categories, while boys contested the -55 kg, -66 kg, -81 kg and +90 kg divisions.

The purpose of the “Talent Selection” tournament is to build a strong foundation for the national team, identify promising judoka who can be candidates for the squad and form a sustainable reserve pool. According to the final ranking after two legs, the top four athletes in each weight category will be included in the “Hopefuls of the Future” training programme.
