On 8 February, the first leg of the U-17 “Selection of Talents” judo tournament came to an end.

On the final day of the competition held at the Sumgayit Olympic Sports Complex, 135 judoka competed on the tatami in 7 weight categories. Girls fought in the -44 kg, -52 kg, -63 kg categories, while boys competed in the -55 kg, -66 kg, -81 kg and +90 kg divisions.

A total of 285 athletes (244 boys, 41 girls) from 71 clubs and sports organisations took part in the tournament.

The aim of the “Selection of Talents” tournament is to build a strong foundation for the national team, identify promising prospective athletes for the squad and form a sustainable reserve pool. According to the final ranking after both legs, the top four athletes in each weight category will be invited to the “Hopes of the Future” training programme.
