Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam Marks Start of LA 2028 Qualification for Azerbaijan

According to the International Judo Federation calendar, the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam will be held in the capital of Mongolia from 19 to 21 June.

As the first qualification event awarding ranking points towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Azerbaijan will be represented by 17 judoka (12 men and 5 women) competing across 12 weight categories.

The team will be led by men’s national team head coach Richard Trautmann, senior coaches Elkhan Mammadov and Robert Krawczyk, women’s national team head coach Amina Abdellatif, and senior coach Sascha Herkenrath-Wiemer.

A total of 455 judoka (254 men and 201 women) from 59 countries will compete over the three-day tournament.

Nazim Umbayev, a member of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation Refereeing Committee and an IJF “A” Licence International Referee, will also officiate at the World Judo Tour event.
